Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano surveyed the damage wrought after his side were trounced 5-0 by Barcelona and declared that the margin of victory did not truly indicate the gap between the teams.
"We have good players and a great coach, so this is not a fatal blow," he told As.com.
"Barcelona were superb, playing consistently and with confidence from the start. They scored with their first chance and we found it tough to overcome that.
"On the bad side we encountered a Barcelona team that were greatly superior: on the good side, we only lost three points. Now we hope to recover."
The Argentine also took a grim view on coach Jose Mouringo's effectivity in altering the course of the game.
"He couldn't bring a major correction to the game," said Valdano. "Today he didn't even leave the bench."
